Mel Welch
Mel has been involved in engineering since leaving school. Initially completing an apprenticeship in welding and fabrication, Mel worked building and restoring municipal vehicles before moving on to more varied projects at Ironcrafts of Stotfold.
During this time he worked on some large scale engineering projects including the Thames Flood Barrier and also more artistic projects involving ornamental ironwork using traditional blacksmithing techniques.
With a passion for music, Mel sought work with Brilliant Stages and was employed as workshop foreman. Leading a fabrication team and working closely with the designers of Brilliant’s projects gave a great insight in to the design and build of staging and other scenic projects. Having knowledge and experience of fabrication lead to closer working with the design team and then learning how to use design software. Mel soon became the head of the design department and lead many projects for major bands such as The Rolling Stones, Take That and AC/DC.
