Creative CAD Designer

Salary – Dependent on experience.



The Next Stage was founded in 2018 providing quality staging and other fabrications to the Live Events Industry.  Lead by a team of experienced designers and fabricators, The Next Stage has been growing and increasing it’s client portfolio which now includes, Take That, Thom Yorke and Kylie Minogue. With every project presenting different designs and challenges, the work produced by The Next Stage is always varied and exciting.

The Next Stage is expanding and is looking for a talented designer to join the team.


About the role:

Permanent position in an exciting, varied, hands-on workplace, using CAD software to design staging and other fabricated assemblies for the Live Events Industry.

The candidate is required to be a good problem solver with practical knowledge of construction and/or fabrication.

They should have the ability to fully grasp a design concept from reading technical drawings and be able to communicate design ideas through drawing, either by hand or using CAD software.

While primarily an office-based role, the candidate will be expected to spend time working in the workshop, assisting with loading out jobs and supporting the fabrication department with building of prototypes.

The candidate may be required to work/travel abroad for short periods of time if projects necessitate this.

The ideal candidate would be hard working, enthusiastic and adaptable as every project is different.

Guidance, training and support will be provided.

Along with designing of the projects, the candidate will be expected to take a part in managing the projects as they flow through the business, from initial client meetings, design, quoting, procurement, fabrication, finishing and dispatch.



Currently based on an English Heritage site, in Silsoe, Bedfordshire. Good bus access from both Bedford and Luton.


The Candidate:

The ideal candidate would possess the following skills. However, these are not all required, and training can and will be given:

Knowledge of construction and fabrication techniques in a range of materials.

Good communication skills, both verbally and in conveying written/drawing information.

Solid computer proficiency, using a 3D design package such as AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Solidworks or Inventor along with use of Microsoft office suite.

Relevant experience and qualifications in Arts/Design/Engineering.

Live events industry experience.


Application and induction process:

Suitable candidates will be invited for an interview or phone interview.

When a suitable candidate has been found, they will be offered the position for 3-6month trial period.

Once the new hire starts at The Next Stage, they will be introduced to how a project runs through the business, spend time in the workshop assisting with build of projects and be taught how we go about designing for our projects.

Training will be given in the use of AutoCAD relative to our projects.

As the new hire progresses, they will be given elements of projects to design gradually progressing up to manage whole design projects under guidance from the company directors.



Full-time position. 37hrs/week.

7.30-4.30 (Monday- Thursday), 7.30-2.30 (Friday).

20 days holiday + bank holidays.
